New Program Offers Cheap Vinyl Siding To Qualified Residents
The city of Painesville, Ohio recently unveiled a program that would bring vinyl siding installation to low- and moderate-income households for just 20 percent of the original price. Financed by the Lake County Community Development Block Grant Program, the initiative is an attempt to beautify the city.
According to Ohio's News-Herald, in 2010 the program improved 10 houses around the city. This year, the city has another $10,000 at its disposal. The number of homes improved this year will come down to how much it costs to renovate each individual house.
"The goal is to improve the housing stock within the community," said Doug Lewis, the Painesville Director of Community Development. "It really comes down to what quotes we get from our vendors. Last year we did 10 homes. We’re hoping to do between 10 and 15 for this year."
In addition to being low-maintenance and visually pleasing, vinyl siding is energy efficient. According to the Vinyl Siding Institute, vinyl score consistently well on environmental measures throughout its manufacturing and installation.
