Vinyl Siding Remains Popular In Many Regions Of The Country
There are a variety of different energy-efficient siding options on the market that homeowners can choose from, but new research shows that vinyl siding remains a favorite. Census data collected in 2010 shows that vinyl has gained 36 percent of the siding market, as it remains popular in single-family homes.
"Vinyl siding remains the preferred exterior cladding because it offers a mix of benefits that no other exterior cladding can offer: beauty, low maintenance, durability and sustainability," said Jery Huntley, president and CEO of the Vinyl Siding Institute (VSI). "We have worked hard to educate builders, remodelers and homeowners about vinyl siding's value, and our efforts are reflected by its growth year after year."
Vinyl siding is especially prominent across the Northeast where it has 84 percent of the market share. This is a five point increase from the previous year. Higher-priced homes are also showing more interest in vinyl siding - this variety is the market leader in all single-family homes sold for more than $499,000.
The VSI reports that vinyl siding can withstand high winds up to 110 miles per hour, making it ideal for individuals who are looking to increase their energy efficiency.
